After a general introduction on the immigration to German speaking countries the focus will be on different state institutions, in which the growing religious and ethnic diversity can be realized: in prisons, in the armee, in hospitals and nursery homes. In the second part of the seminar we will have a deeper look into the changes in
in Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities which have been caused because of migration processes in the last 50 years. In one unit we will deal with the special problem of mosque building and the re-negotiation of urban space in Austria. Please not that we have an additional meeting on 14th of April in the evening 6 pm. This is organized in cooperation with the Penitentiary Academy at the Protestant Academy. We will discuss there with a German researcher about the management of religious diversity in German and Spanish prisons. Finally we will deal with the question how social sciences and the study of religious react or (should) react on the transformation of European societies.
