Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The international transfer of legal concepts and principles is often interrelated with global power structures. From colonialism onwards, the global center has developed different forms and channels of legal influence on the periphery. The idea of the superiority of the so called West contrary to the backwardness of so called developing countries plays an important role in these processes. With reference to concrete examples of legal transplants in Latin America, we will discuss the different forms of legal influence, the transferred legal concepts, their political impact and their relation to global power.
