Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course aims at providing the students with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of EU Law and serves as a preparation for the written exams in EU Law (STEOP IREWI and Diploma). Students who take their oral exam with Prof. Hornkohl are also invited and encouraged to participate in this exercise. Students are encourage to come to the exercise even if they are not officially registered with the class (those students will not be graded).

The classes will consist of two elements: discussion of hypothetical mock cases and questions on EU law and a written exam.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The grade for the exercise is composed of equal parts of a final written exam and the ongoing participation in the course. Students can pass the course if they are present and actively participating in class even if they fail the final written exam. The mock exam will not count as part of the grade of this class and will only serve as preparation.

Permitted aids during the written test: legal text (e.g. Code of European Law, LexisNexis; all other uncommented legal texts, e.g. printed versions of the TEU, TFEU, Charter of Fundamental Rights).

Note regarding the marking of the legal text:
Colour highlighting is permissible. Article references are permissible. In any case, additional comments, annotations, keywords or information are not permitted. Other markings (striking, underlining, symbols, etc.) are not permitted if they obviously only serve to circumvent the prohibition on commenting. The insertion of post-its is permitted, but the post-its may only be labelled with references to the respective treaty provision (e.g. Art 263 TFEU), but not with headings or keywords (e.g. action for annulment).

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Students should have a basic knowledge of EU law for this course, which builds upon the course VO Introduction to European Law (held during the winter term).
For participation: students are required to attend the course (or excused absence) and actively participate in the discussions and questions
