Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
At the occasion of the 2008 Olympic Games, this seminar will analyze the current state of human rights in China, looking at de jure and de facto compliance, recent progress and remaining shortfalls. Secondly, the seminar will consider China's influence on the human rights situation in the region (e.g.: relations with Burma), her decisions at multilateral level (e.g.: China's role in the Human Rights Council or her ratification of international human rights treaties) and the human rights dimension of China's global reach (e.g.: her non-conditional cooperation with certain African countries). As a third perspective, the seminar will analyze the strategies employed by different actors (NGOs, inter-governmental organisations, states) to further China's adherence to human rights.

Understand the human rights situation in China, her influence on human rights norms regionally and globally and strategies employed to further human rights in China.
Prüfungsstoff
The course will be conducted as a block seminar where papers will be presented and discussed in a scholarly atmosphere.
