Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Australias colonial past has left visible marks of violence on the countrys contemporary literary landscape. Selected readings and film material will recognize narratives shaped by invasion, colonization, dispossession, and exploitation. The focus of the course will be on the unraveling of Australias colonial past to highlight the problematic legacies of colonialism in both personal and national narration.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Students will be assessed based on regular attendance, class participation, class presentations, four individual essays, and a final written exam.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
The aim of this course is to introduce students to a diverse and interesting selection of some significant Australian writing and filmmaking, and to develop students' skills in reading and critically analysing cultural texts: novels, plays and movies.
Prüfungsstoff
Lecture, class discussion and student presentations.
