Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

China seeks to overcome its environmental crisis and transition into a green superpower. What progress has been achieved and what are the remaining major problems? How is the environment governed and how are environmental rules enforced? How are environmental interests expressed and negotiated in the Chinese political system? Which larger political, social and economic implications arise from the field of environmental politics?

This course will explore these questions by examining environmental governance, green civil society, public participation and protest, policy making, as well as the fields of waste and air pollution. It is designed for Master’s students in Chinese Studies, but open to students from other majors. Knowledge of Chinese language is an advantage for writing term papers, but not essential for successful participation.
