Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This seminar accompanies the lecture course "250096 VO Analysis on Manifolds". The goal is to achieve a more thorough and functional understanding of the material presented in the lecture.

A PDF containing exercise problems is available on Moodle. At the end of each class (except the last one) eight exercises from the sheet will be assigned for the next class. Students work on the problems outside of class and then indicate, by ticking boxes in Moodle, which exercises they solved and would like to present in front of the class.

In class, for each problem, one student is selected to present their work. At first, the presenter is selected at random among those who ticked the box and have not yet presented. Once everyone has presented at least once, selection can be based on personal initiative of the students.
After each presentation, if time permits, we discuss the exercise, the presented solution, and possible alternative solutions.

If you have worked on an exercise and ticked the box, but do not feel comfortable presenting in front of the class, you have the opportunity to instead hand in your written work for me to grade and give feedback on.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Continuous assessment of course work.

Attendance is mandatory. If you cannot attend, please let me know and give a reason (if possible in advance). In that case, please submit exercises for the boxes you ticked to me by email, so I can see your work and give feedback.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Students are expected to tick the boxes for at least half of the exercises, and present at least one of them at the board in front of the class. Given that these minimal requirements are fulfilled, the final grade will be determined as the average of:
- One grade for each presentation at the board,
- one grade for general activity and participation (including the number of presentations at the board),
- and one grade for the number of boxes ticked: 50% for a 4; 62.5% for a 3; 75% for a 2; 87.5% for a 1.
