Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Jewish and Christian Approaches to the Hebrew Bible

The Hebrew Bible/Old Testament is a foundational text of European culture and religion. It is both Tanach in Jewish tradition and Old Testament in Christian tradition. This special hermeneutic situation will be reflected in the course. The seminar aims at reading important example texts from the Hebrew Bible, their historical-critical exegesis and both Jewish and Christian interpretations of different periods.

Methods:
a mixture of close reading, consultation of commentaries, presentations of students, and guest lectures by international guests

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The seminar is a course with integrated assessment.
Students must complete three components:
- Preparation of individual sessions: Reading (30%).
- Organization of a session, presentation with ppt or Handout (40%).
- Minutes of another session, including reflexion (30%).

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Minimum requirements:
Attendance at the seminar is compulsory.
A maximum of 2 absences are permitted.

Assessment criteria:
The grade is calculated as the average of the grades for the individual components.
