Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This course aims to introduce students to the legal framework of the exploration and use of Outer Space. Starting from the general principles of Space Law as a branch of international law it also examines other legal issues of the use of Outer Space technologies, be it for scientific, commercial, security, or other purposes. The different actors in Outer Space - public and private - will be presented and their interaction will be analysed. Requirements; basic knowledge of international law and proficiency in English.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
A sound general understanding of the nature of Space Law as a field of study and of some of the perspectives from which the use of space technologies are analysed; a substantial awareness of new developments in space activities; a developed appreciation of some of the main contemporary issues of the peaceful use of Outer Space.
Prüfungsstoff
Students are expected to read assigned text chapter and supported resources; they are encouraged to participate in discussions and to prepare short oral presentations. Several excursions (to the UN and to ESPI) will be organised. The final exam will be a written test (in English).
