Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course will examine the principal legal issues concerning intergovernmental organizations. These include the legal status and powers of organizations, membership and participation, norm-creation, dispute settlement, enforcement of decisions, peace and security activities, and finally the organizations' privileges and immunities as well as their legal status and powers under national law.
This course will be taught using a combination of lectures and class discussions. It will be based on student preparation of the course materials as indicated in the Syllabus available on Moodle. The course program is structured in the form of review questions based on these course materials. Students are supposed to prepare and to debate them in class as well as to contribute their own insights.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Final written (closed book) exam on 17 January 2019 plus class participation.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

1. Written examination There will be one final exam which will be worth 70% of the final course mark.
2. Class participation This will include demonstrated preparation for class and participation in discussions and will be worth 30% of the final course mark.

Topics contained in the required readings, slides and addressed in class.
