Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course introduces selected topics and legal regimes in the history of business and economic law and attempts to approach the subject with a global perspective. The course will focus on the impact of the emergence of a capitalist mode of production on law and will explore how different historical actors have responded to similar problematic situations. Special attention will be given to the international legal framework of global phenomena such as colonialism and industrialization.
The course is divided into lecture, interactive "guided reading" and discussions. The aim is for participants to become familiar with some of the basic concepts and approaches of modern business and economic law history.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Two of the following three performances must be fulfilled:

1.) Colloquium
2.) Short Presentation/Response
3.) Course protocol

In addition, regular attendance and participation are required.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

This is an introductory course. Specific prior knowledge or the passing of the module exam in legal history are not prerequisites for participation. Students from non-law majors and Erasmus students are welcome!

Prüfungsstoff

The relevant materials for the colloquium, presentations/responses and course protocol will be announced in the course.
