Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The seminar "040029 Seminar (MA) Resilienz" provides an introduction into the topical theme of resilience. In the seminar we will read and discuss current state-of-the-art research. This introduction may be useful to prepare a master thesis on a related topic.

Dealing with multiple crises has become the main challenge for liberal societies in the new millennium. It turns out that they are badly prepared and lacking resilience. The purpose of the seminar is to understand why. What are the characteristics of resilient business models and resilient societal institutions? How can they be safeguarded against short-term opportunism? And why has resilience been compromised after all?

The seminar will discuss the current state of research as collected in a special issue (74/4) in the "Schmalenbach Journal of Business Research", 2022.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Critical discussion of a research paper (40%)
Paper presentation (30%)
Active discussion of work of peers (30%) - If need be: camera needs to be activated at all times during Zoom sessions

Attendance mandatory. Course organization will be introduced and the presentation schedule will be arranged in the first meeting at April 17th. Failure to show up in the first meeting may result in the non-availability of presentation slots.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Grading is based on three elements:

1. Presentation of a research paper (30%).
Each candidate has to present an advanced paper and organize discussion of the topic with the peeers.

2. Critical discussion of a reserach paper (40%)

3. Active discourse (33%)
Research requires two-way communication of ideas. Therefore, in reserach communication both, i.e. sender and receiver play an crucial role to establish knowledge and potentially extend it further. Accordingly, both roles will be relevant for grading.
