Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This course focuses on the economic assessment of public and non-profit companies/institutions by using benchmarking as an instrument for strategic planning and control.The main part of the course consists of benchmarking Decision Making Units (DMUs) such as public institutions, associations, and hospitals. An introduction on benchmarking approaches is provided with a special focus on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Each student group selects a particular economic sector (e.g., education, environment/energy, health, disaster management, recreation) to benchmark DMUs. First, each student group reports on a selected topic of pitfalls and protocols in DEA (homework 1). Second, each student group discusses and presents particularities of the selected economic sector and the related DMUs (homework 2). Requirements for a positive grade (min. 50%)
• Positive collaboration during the blocked classes (max. 30%)
• Homework 1 (oral: 5%; written slides: 5%)
• Homework 2 (oral: 10%; written slides: 20%)
• Homework 3 (oral: 10%; written slides: 20%)
