Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Please note
This is an intensive course. As it counts for 4 ECTS, the expected average student effort is 100 hours, to be expended over a period of 11.5 days. This implies an average daily workload (including classes and tests) of 8.7 hours.

Aims of the Course
On completion of the course, students will be able to
• give effective, well-structured and audience-friendly presentations in English;
• plan and write effective, reader-friendly English paragraphs, using appropriate structuring and cohesive devices;
• understand the basic principles of argumentation in English, and apply them in presentations and reports;
• assess critically their own and others' presentations and writing, in particular argumentational paragraphs.

Teaching
This course uses the following methods: lectures, small-group work, individual written feedback, peer feedback, discussions, vocabulary development, role plays, group presentations and their analysis, writing workshops.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Business English III is assessed by means of
• Group presentation (30%)
• Participation & assignments (30%)
• Final test (40%)

No dictionaries or other reference materials are allowed in the test.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Under University regulations, Business English III is a "prüfungsimmanent" course, which means that in principle students must attend every class. Exceptionally, you may miss a maximum of three 90-minute sessions. You need not provide evidence of the reasons for such absences. However, if you miss more than three sessions, you will automatically fail the course unless you can provide documentary evidence of very good reason for ALL your absences.

Students who satisfy the above attendance requirements must achieve a PS of at least 60% to pass the course. If they do so, they will be awarded grades according to the following scale..
PS 60-67 - grade 4
PS 68-75 - grade 3
PS 76-84 - grade 2
PS 85-100 - grade 1
