Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course will introduce the students to the dynamics of contemporary Israeli society and culture through new cinematographic narratives.
A post-colonial discourse is being widespread in Israeli society, fragmenting the Zionist Ideology and raising new questions concerning identities. A major theme for discussion will be: Is the Israeli society going towards a multi-cultural society or towards Glocalisation (a combination of chauvinistic local-patriotism in the age of Globalisation)?
The course combines Jewish and Israeli history and culture focusing on new images regarding history and memory; contemporary mentalities towards the culture of war and militarism; attitudes towards ethnical tensions; and more.
