Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Antisemitic interpretations of the Jewish scriptures occur already inside the New Testament. Such ancient antisemitic readings of the Bible initiated a negative reception history that continues until today and expresses itself in texts and images. It is widespread in all parts of modern societies and permeates not only the fringes of radical right-wing movements and fundamentalist Christianity but found and finds wide acceptance in the general public. This course will study select examples of antisemitic readings of the Bible in texts and images. The results of our work will be made available in form of an online exhibition. This class will be jointly held with Russell E. Fuller from the University of San Diego in California. Students of Vienna University will work in teams with students of the University of San Diego.
