Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The lecture introduces to key research fields of Historical and Cultural European Studies and covers the time period from Late Antiquity to Contemporary History. We will address how Europe was perceived through political, spacial, and cultural lenses. In doing so, various theoretical and methodological approaches will be explored as well. Each session will cover a specific topic.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Written exam at the end of the semester (27 January 2026).The exam consists of two parts:
I) Antiquity to 18th century (Dorothea Nolde)
II) 19th and 20th century (Elena Bacchin)In addition to English, the questions of part I can also be answered in German, French, and Spanish.
The questions of part II can also be answered in Italian.

50% score at the written exam.

Prüfungsstoff
The exam covers the entirety of topics, based on oral presentation, slides, and mandatory reading.
Literatur
Mandatory reading will be provided per Moodle and adjusted over the semester, taking into account upcoming questions and students‘ interests.
