Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The module covers the chronological arc (ca. 1500 to ca. 1914), spanning from the expansion of the world’s horizons and the gradual disappearance of the medieval worldview to the establishment of industrial and mass society. In other words, it examines the period in which the process of globalization begins, alongside the emergence and consolidation of political and religious tolerance, the modern state, citizens’ rights, and national movements. Although the module places special focus on Europe, it seeks to position it within a broader global context and critically engage with Eurocentric narratives.
Students will be introduced to the core themes of modern history, engage with historiographical debates and key terminology of the period, reflect on notions of European identity and modernity, and learn to identify and analyze basic primary sources.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Written exam, four exam dates are offered.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Achieving at least 50 out of a total of 100 points: 20% multiple choice questions and 80% open questions.
