Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This is a course planned as a series of seminars on methods of Oral History, doing oral history interviews, interpretation and writing about the interviews using other historical sources such as life documents (diaries, letters etc.), local histories, historical publications such as periodicals, newspapers, books, pamphelia etc. Examples of study of oral personal narratives (especially of women) and the study of written autobiographies (especially of women) will be shown and discussed in class by the instructor (first 4 weeks) The rest of the course will be designed as weekly seminars based on presentations by the students either on an oral history interview each has conducted guided by the instructor or the study of a written autobiographical text, memoir, diary writing or letters.

% 30 of the Final Grade: oral presentation and class participation
%70 written term paper based on a mini research

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Regular class attendance in the lectures, weekly consultation with the instructor, and participation in class discussions are important. The assessment will be made on the oral presentation of each student and a term paper written on the same topic based on the interpretation of the oral history interview or the written autobiographical narrative presented in class as well as a critical historiographical discussion about the use of such personal historical material.
