Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course (lecture format) introduces students to the history of China from the fall of the Qing-Dynasty (1911/12) to the founding of the People's Republic of China (1949):
- the Fall of the Qing-Dynasty
- the founding phase of the Republic of China
- the changing position(s) of China in the world
- the May-Fourth-Movement
- the early years of the Chinese Communist Party
- the Warlord Era
- the Nanjing Decade (1927-1937)
- Sino-Japanese relations and the (Second) Sino-Japanese War
- China during WW II
- Civil war 1945-1949
