Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
What is global history? This lecture course will try to answer that question in three different ways. First, global history as an academic field itself has a history, it can be contexualized in the development of the historical sciences in the last few decades to discover what it aimed for, and what it aimed against. Second, global history can be defined by key theoretical concepts and methods that are usually employed in it. Third, and this will be the main part of the course, global history can be understood in action, i.e. by looking at case studies that illustrate different dimensions that are important to research in the field. Thematically, the examples will largely draw on the global history of capitalism.
