Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course will examine various instances of forced, coercive, punitive, regulated or government-controlled migration during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Through an examination of current research literature and primary sources, the course will explore the different actors, power dynamics, representations, and narratives involved in the deportation of convicts, the slave trade, internment, and the flight of refugees.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students will be assessed based on a bachelor thesis (or research paper), a presentation, and their contributions to discussions.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Research based BA-thesis (or extended research paper) (9,000-10,000 words) (60% of the final grade)
Oral presentation of the research paper (20% of the final grade)
Active participation in discussions (20% of the final grade)
Regular attendance (students may miss up to two classes)
