Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this lecture class students will be given an insight into literature for young readers from the 20th and 21st centuries. They will get to know some of the 20th century classics, such as Peter Pan, and more recent examples of children's literature by writers such as John Green, David Walliams or Malorie Blackman, and will apply critical theory and contextual analysis to these texts. Students will also be introduced to other than print media, such as superhero comics, film adaptations, picturebook apps and fan fiction, and will have the chance to broaden their awareness of children's literature. Students will be engaged in analysing both what distinguishes children's literature from mainstream fiction and what these two bodies of writing have in common.
