Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This lecture focuses on cultural portrayals of nature and the environment in the age of the Anthropocene. The genres that it covers range from the environmental documentary to ecohorror and beyond to understand humanity’s changing attitudes to nature from the classic “mother” images to nature’s demonization. Zeroing in on such issues as colonization, resource extraction, ecological decline, and climate change, among many others, it examines the ways humanity causes environmental degradation, as well as investigates how this degradation influences our lives today. All these issues are studied according to their portrayals in various cultural media with a particular emphasis on film and TV, considering both fictional and nonfictional representations.
