Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This class explores the challenges of critical media analysis in a "New Media" context. How do web 2.0 practices (like blogging, facebook, YouTube, Wikipedia etc,) change ideas about education and related skills? What does it mean for the production of knowledge, identities, and culture? How do these practices affect (or should affect) English & American Studies?

In this course, students will critically explore the affordances of web 2.0 and relate it to their study context to enhance critical media literacy, reflect on their own academic practice and English Studies in general.
Aimed at BA students and teacher trainees, this course is designed as an interactive workshop taking place in class and online in order to practice critical media analysis and to develop a critical understanding of the notions "New Media", "critical media literacy" and "digital literacy" in the context of education and English Studies.
A class blog will be set up where students will post class related ideas and findings on a regular basis. -> Regular Internet access is obligatory.
