Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
In its first part (weekly sessions until early May), this course focuses on verbal texture and literary form. Basing our analyses on various (narratological, cognitive, stylistic etc.) approaches to the literary code, we will take a close look at the linguistic micro-level and the way literary texts shape their language material in order to establish aesthetic patterning and heteroreferential meaning. Students will then be given time to work on their own projects to be presented at a mini-conference on a Saturday in June (11/6). Here, we will be looking at a wide selection of theories, approaches and schools of thought which have proved helpful in the elucidation of literary texts (eg. works by authors such as Hayden White, Roman Jakobson, Northrop Frye, Harold Bloom, Niklas Luhmann or Pierre Bourdieu; approaches such as stylistics or cognitive literary theory, theoretical issues such as narrativity, immersion or the comic).
