Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The objective of this class is to enable students, under expert guidance and supervision, to read and analyze advanced text of Nepali literature. The text selected for this class will be based on personal narratives of Nepali women from the 20th Century. We will focus on the social context of Nepal and look for the “woman’s place” in it with the help of literary texts selected for the class. Moreover, we will closely observe rights to economic participation, right to contraception, right to make decision of her life, gradual changes in the psychological, legal, economic and social bases of the family and so on.
Regular attendance, active participation in the class and home assignments are strictly demanded from every participant. The class will be conducted in Hindi and therefore interested students must have a very good knowledge of Hindi grammar.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Method of assessment: text preparation and written exam 50%, an essay of 1, 500 words (in Hindi) on a given topic at the end of the semester (25%) and, regular attendance, participation and home works (25%)
