Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This seminar provides an in-depth exploration of the Babylonian creation myth Atrahasis. Students will read and translate the Akkadian text while working directly with cuneiform sources, thereby developing their philological skills, including the use of score editions. The course also introduces students to key theoretical approaches to myth, offering a broader framework for interpreting ancient narratives.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

All students are expected to prepare translations of the assigned texts for in-class discussion. While they are encouraged to produce their own translations and grammatical analyses using dictionaries and grammars, they may also consult previous editions and the online edition of Atrahasis available on eBL. Evaluation will also include presentations on selected topics.

In addition, MA students will choose a topic for their seminar paper and present their preliminary research in class.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Prüfungsstoff

Presentations and the final paper (for MA) must be well-researched and meet the academic standards expected of BA or MA students respectively
