Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This module is designed to introduce students to main issues in corpus linguistics (CL). The module is divided into three parts. The first part will explain what corpus linguistics is, how it differs from other linguistics approaches, what most important corpus tools. In addition, the module will examine key methodological concepts in CL and will help students develop research questions for their corpus research. The second part will focuses on applications of CL to issues in critical discourse analysis, literary stylistics and register variation. As a final stage, students will present their work in progress to their classmates in the form of an oral presentation.

By the end of the module the student will be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge of principles of corpus linguistics;
- understand key methodological tools in CL;
- apply computational tools to the study CDA, literary stylistics and register analysis;
- collect data and compile a corpus;
- present, both orally and in writing, data which has been analysed linguistically;
