180065 SE Political Epistemology (2021S)

This course is a seminar introducing you to a (partly) new area in epistemology: an area bringing together epistemology and political philosophy. (In some ways, this starts from, and generalizes, issues that have been important in feminist epistemology and critical race studies.) Issues to be discussed will include: epistemic bubbles, social media deception, "white lies" and "white ignorance", epistocratic paternalism, democracy and epistemology, epistemic pathologies, polarization, deep disagreement. -- We shall follow a conventional scheme for conducting a seminar, with student presentations and discussions.
