Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course aims at articulating the philosophical concept of justice and at some in depth understanding of its treatment by Mill, Nozick, and Rawls. As side themes the course will explore the psychological and evolutionary bases of justice, and the idea of justice to non-human entities such as animals and plants.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students need to write two papers, participate in the class, and give one presentation.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The course is in English and on original texts. Students are expect to read PRIOR to class

Mill - Utilitarianism (session 1)
Rawls - A Theory of Justice ch. 1-3 (session 2)
Nozick - Anarchy, State, and Utopia ch 7 (session2)

all easily available on the web as pdf.
