Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course provides an introduction to programming with Python. The goal of the seminar is twofold: (a) to acquire fundamental programming skills and (b) to apply programming skills in psychology - develop a Stroop experiment. The course content is developed step-by-step during the seminar, with a focus on the students' practical application of the material.

No prior programming experience is necessary or expected. The course is intended for students with no or very little programming experience.

Students need their own laptop with internet access.

Initial assignments will be completed in Google Collab. Therefore, a Google account is required.

The language of instruction is English. Good understanding of English is necessary to participate in the course.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Performance requirements:
- Working through the assignments during the seminar sessions
- Completing the homework assignments on topics covered in the seminar
- Completing the final project

Students are allowed to use course materials, documentation, publicly available code, and AI tools to help with solving the assignments. However, copying whole or substantial parts of solutions is not allowed and will be considered plagiarism. In cases of doubt, students can be invited to an oral examination to explain the workings of their code.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Students can acquire up to 100 points over the course of the seminar. Points can be earned as follows:
• Assignments during the seminar: 16 points (8 seminars with assignments; 2 points per assignment)
• Homework: 27 points (9 assignments, 3 points per homework)
• Final project: 57 points

In addition, it is necessary to earn at least 50% of possible points in all areas, i.e., seminars, homework, final project. In other words, students who do well at homework still need to hand in a working final project!

Grading scale:
1: 90% – 100%
2: 80% – 89%
3: 70% – 79%
4: 60% – 69%
5: 0% – 59%

Prüfungsstoff

There is no final exam. The grade is made up of partial assignments completed throughout the semester.
