Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course serves as a research internship where students gain a research research experience in variety of tasks by joining the research projects.
In this course, there will be two research projects available.
Both research projects are related to psychology of aesthetics, below is the brief introduction of each research project.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Aesthetic emotions and art appreciation
The emotions we feel when experiencing art are quite different from our everyday feelings sometimes, making aesthetic emotions a fascinating way to understand how we perceive art. By combining the psychology of emotion with art-specific theories, this project explores the unique ways art moves us.
Using controlled lab experiments, this project measures participants' viewing experiences to investigate how context and visual details shape our feelings, judgments, and aesthetic choices.

2. Urban public design and well-being
Public design contributes to how people perceive, behave, and evaluate the environment, leading to evaluational and emotional reactions of the users. With the rapid pace of the urbanization, investigating how people divide their attention, what brings positive / negative impact on their users in public spaces are getting more and more critical.
To quantify such a effect, this project employs a field experiment in two urban public spaces in the city of Vienna and asses the well-being impact by interacting with our surrounding environments, and how they are associated with the evaluations of the locations.

In either project, you will learn
- Design and conduct psychological field or laboratory studies from scratch
- Navigate logistical challenges of collecting data in real-world settings
- Analyze and interpret data with confidence

Task involved:
- Field data collection
- Analyze the collected data

** both projects require team work!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An overall theme of the course will be that students will be treated, and expected to act as if they were performing as interns in the PI laboratory, contributing work to the project, but also with the extra addition of a learning framework.
