Seminar description:
The seminar provides an introduction to the international political economy of global policy regimes by introducing students to key concepts for the analysis of global cooperation, as well as sources of conflicts and their resolution. Its goal is to provide understanding of the complexity of global political economy, while also enabling students to conduct analysis of the most pressing issues such as the current financial crisis. The first part of the seminar introduces basic analytical concepts and selection of global regimes in five introductory lectures, focused successively on: (i) global trade regime, (ii) global financial regime, (iii) global rules for foreign investments protection, (iv) intellectual property rights and (v) competition policy. The second part of the seminar will consist of five tutored discussions of the empirical research conducted by teams of 2-3 students, who will discuss the outline of collective essays analysing one specific issue within a chosen policy domain. During the final five sessions, student teams will present and discuss findings of their collective essays. The final assignment is an upgraded collective essay submitted by each individual student.
Students attending the seminar are required to have working knowledge of English, since all lectures, seminar materials and assignments will be provided exclusively in English. All communication and documents will be processed through the online Moodle platform.
