Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This Master’s seminar delves into the latest momentum of feminist movements and discourses emerging across the Global South(s), which have redefined political agency, collective action, and visions of justice over the past decade. From the uprising in Rojava and the revolutionary momentum in Iran to mass mobilisations in Latin America and India against feminicide and the global resonance of the International Women’s Strike, these movements and visions have advanced transformative critiques of power, care, and life itself. As these feminisms gain ground, they have provoked a growing backlash—manifested in the rise of anti-gender and anti-feminist politics within authoritarian and neoliberal contexts. This seminar critically examines both the structural conditions enabling feminist resurgence and the reactionary responses it has triggered. Students will engage with contemporary feminist theories on gender violence, transnational solidarities, everyday politics, aesthetics of resistance, and feminist utopianisms. The course fosters critical reflection on the ethics, methodologies, and geopolitical entanglements of feminist praxis in international politics.

The seminar method primarily consists of reviewing and analysing suggested readings through group presentations, class discussions, feedback assignments, and final essays, as well as possibly oral exams.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

- Attend and actively participate in discussions within the units, and read the suggested readings weekly.
- Participate in collective presentation and moderating discussions in one of the units.
- Writing and timely submission of short feedback assignments on the main readings during the semester.
- Writing and timely submission of the final essay’s outline.
- Writing and timely submission of the final essay.

- Active participation in the seminar (10% of final grade)
- Collective presentation (20% of final grade)
- Feedback Assignments (20% of final grade)
- Outline of the final essay (10% of final grade)
- Final Essay around 3000 words (40% of final grade)
