240506 VO History of Anthropology since the 1970s (P2) (2016W)

This course discusses the history of socio-cultural anthropology since the 1970's primarily in the English- and French-speaking dimensions through perspectives on main theoretical paradigms and on primary methodological shifts.

The introductory sections will focus on the impact on postmodern and postcolonial transformations upon the discipline. The course's main portion will move on to discuss how ethnographic fieldwork, historical approaches in anthropology, and comparative procedsures (as our field's three main methodological tools) have undergone substantial developments since the 1970's.

The final section will move back to theory, in order to demonstrate that and how socio-cultural anthropology today in fact is at the forefront of international social sciences and humanities in addressing key issues through improved research procedures.
