The lecturer can invite students to a grade-relevant discussion about partial achievements. Partial achievements that are obtained by fraud or plagiarized result in the non-evaluation of the course (entry 'X' in certificate). Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This seminar builds on two previous seminars on Northern Fennoscandia (methods & fieldwork) in spring 2020 and is intended for students who have completed the previous courses. Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions in May 2020 we plan to conduct the on-site fieldwork during this seminar: Oct. 26th - Nov. 11th 2020, if the situation allows it. The fieldwork has been prepared during the previous seminars and will include the use of different kinds of qualitative research methods, supervised by the three course instructors.

The second component of this seminar is the data analysis and write-up of the qualitative data collection. Students are expected to transcribe the collected data in the field and connect them with the data already collected online. We will discuss and work on methods for qualitative data analysis, and students will interpret the data and put them in dialogue with their prepared theoretical framework. The output of the research results could be used as a basis for Master’s theses focusing on Northern Fennoscandia and serves as a tool for how to conduct anthropological fieldwork.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Active participation in the excursion accounts for 40% of the grade. After the trip, the students will hand in a report with a short reflection on their fieldwork and data collection, including the transcribed interviews. This will account for 10% of the grade. The findings will be presented in class, a presentation that accounts for 10% of the grade, as well as in a mandatory written paper, which accounts for the last 40% of the grade.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

In order to receive a passing grade, you need at least 60 points. A 'sehr gut' requires at least 90 out of 100 points (a 'gut' at least 80 points, etc.). Attendance is required during the trip as well as the meetings before and after.

Prüfungsstoff

There will be no exams, however the literature discussed in the previous seminars as well as additional readings will form the basis for the individual projects.

The literature discussed in the seminars leading up to the excursion will be used as a basis for the individual projects. If needed, students will add additional literature to be used in their projects.
