Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The students describe state-of-the-art techniques for the remediation or safeguarding of sites contaminated with environmental pollutants and assess key risks considering geo- and hydrochemical processes in a site-specific and solution-oriented manner. They are able to develop a concept for the assessment of an area of suspected contamination and can recall relevant sampling and analytical techniques. By comparison of measured values with current legislation and threshold values they are able to suggest the necessary measures for safeguarding or decontamination.

The course is split into lectures with exercises, case studies, problem-oriented presentation of site remediation issues by students and an excursion.

All relevant materials will be provided online in moodle.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

In addition to exercises coupled to the lectures, the students will be assigned topics for group work, which aims at applying the concepts of selected remediation techniques. The presentation of these assignments will be evaluated according to
1) preparation of the topic (including report)
2) use of additional sources and information, also coupling to course content
3) quality of presentation
4) quality and level of the Q&A part of the presentation

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Grades will be given based on:
20% exercises assigned by Thomas Reichenauer
20% exercises assigned by Gabriel Sigmund
10% Excursion and Report
20% Presentations of remediation technologies in groups of 2 students
30% case study report and presentation in groups of 2 students

Obtaining > 50% of the possible points is necessary to successfully complete the course.
