Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This seminar focuses on the recent developments in systematic and evolutionary botany. Each week we will discuss a significant, recent paper in plant systematics and evolution to become informed of the latest developments in our field. Whenever possible, authors of papers discussed in class will be invited to join via zoom for a short discussion.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

1. Leading the discussion of at least one paper. This will include preparing: (1) slides to present the major results, (2) topics for discussion, including questions regarding methods and major conclusions, and (3) a deeper understanding of relevant background material (15 points).
2. Active, regular participation in in-depth discussions of the seminars (5 points)

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The students are able to discuss systematic and evolutionary aspects of a given topic. They have a good knowledge of terminology commonly used in this research field. They effectively lead a discussion of at least one paper. Credit key: <10 points: 5; 11-12 points: 4; 13-14 points: 3; 15-17 points 2; 18-20 points: 1.

Literatur

At least one major, recent paper in systematic and evolutionary botany will be discussed each class. Links to all relevant papers will be provided.
