This practical course in ‘Stable isotope analysis for palaeodietary and palaeoenvironmental reconstruction’ will provide students with some hands-on experience in our laboratories by working with archaeological samples. We will cover basic methods of including sampling bones, followed by the application of wet chemistry protocols for the extraction of bone collagen, and the stable isotope measurement of samples. Students will be provided with a dataset to perform some data analysis of archaeological individuals.
The course starts with a brief introduction followed by the laboratory work, and will end with a short presentation of the students to the rest of the class. In addition, the students will have to write up a short scientific report (individually).
