1. The concept of biodiversity, its levels (genetic, species, phylogenetic, functional) and spatial dimensions
2. Measuring biodiversity
3. Evolution and history of diversity
4. Large-scale diversity patterns and principles of macro-ecology
5. Contemporary local and landscape scale patterns and processes: neutral processes; (dispersal), niche partitioning & biotic interactions (including meta-population, community and meta-community ecology)
6. Biodiversity, ecosystem function and ecosystem services
7. The future of biodiversity: global change, threats and conservation issues
The lecture will be held in the lecture hall, offering a maximum of 44 seats according to current health regulations. Talks will be recorded and the files made available using the "Collaborate" function. Also all slides will be sent out to registered students, so that those who do not wish to participate in person, or do not find a space in the lecture hall, will experience no disadvantage.
Note that procedures may need to be adapted on short notice, if required by the COVID-19 regulations.
