Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Learning objectives: (1) to improve students text analysis skills with special attention to text types/genres and their textual/linguistic characteristics and conventions; (2) to enhance students ability to plan and produce effective and authentic texts for different communicative purposes, situations and target audiences; (3) to raise students awareness of the writing process as well as text features and patternsCourse contents: analysis, discussion, production and transformation of various authentic text types/genres embedded in specific communication situationsTeaching methods (didactics): lectures, in-class discussions and interactive activities; writing tasks and home assignments based on specific instructions (e.g. producing original written texts of various types, rewriting/adapting and paraphrasing texts to suit different communicative purposes and target groups); individual, pair, and group work
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Completion of written assignments (20%), mid-term test (40%), and final test (40%).
Students are allowed to use monolingual dictionaries during the tests (no electronic devices).

The course is accompanied by a tutorial which students are expected to attend.

Prüfungsstoff
Compendium, reading material etc. will be made available and shared on Moodle. Both tests will be based on the text types and exercise formats used in class and in the written assignments.
