Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

OBJECTIVE
To become aware of writing strategies and stylistic tools and their impact on the reader/audience. Students should be able to develop their own style in dealing with different subject-matter and types of texts (in both written and oral form).

CONTENT
In this course we will join the renowned writer/essayist Yuval Noah Harari on his exploration of today's most pressing issues. His book '21 Lessions for the 21st Century' looks at some of the challenges of maintaining our focus in the face of constant change. We will discuss a number of the main themes of his book and reflect on how they are addressed by others in the media (print, Internet, radio). Students will be expected to read text material to be posted weekly and to comment on a particular subject in class discussions and in written and oral assignments

METHODS
Weekly reading and listening assignments. There will alos be individual and group presentations.
