Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Course Description (Aims, Content, and Method):

This course supports PhD students in producing a full-length chapter of their dissertation. Emphasizing structured writing, peer feedback, and revision, the course helps students refine their scholarly voice and develop a strong argumentative structure. The course will spend considerable time on the importance of literature reviews, linking theory to methods, interpreting empirical materials, and developing strong arguments. Weekly sessions combine short presentations on academic writing with in-class writing time and structured peer review. Students are expected to enter the course with a clear dissertation topic and must be ready to write. The course is not appropriate for students who have not completed research (or most of the thesis research).

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Short and longer writing assignments; in-class peer review and feedback sessions. Students may use any writing aids, citation managers, or materials that support their writing.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Students must attend regularly, participate actively in discussions and peer reviews, and submit writing assignments throughout the semester. By the end of the course, students must submit a full draft of one dissertation chapter (8000-10000 words). Assessment is based on consistent progress, quality of written work, responsiveness to feedback, and final submission.

Grading scheme:
90-100 = 1
80 - 89 = 2
70 - 79 = 3
60 - 69 = 4
0 - 59 = 5

Examination Material: None.

Literatur

None assigned. The course focuses entirely on students' own writing and development.
