410001 FKO Einführungskurs Historisch-Kulturwissenschaftliches Doktoratsstudium (2026S)

This course is designed for first-year doctoral candidates at the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies (Ancient History and Classical Studies, Art History, Byzantine and Neo-Greek Studies, Classical Archaeology, Egyptology, European Ethnology, History, Jewish Studies, and Prehistory and Historical Archaeology).
The course provides essential information on the structure and organisation of doctoral studies and offers space for reflection on doctoral candidates’ own research projects as well as on medium-term academic and career planning. It prepares participants for the public presentation of their dissertation project (Fakultätsöffentliche Präsentation, FÖP) and offers opportunities to connect with fellow PhD students who are also at the beginning of their doctoral studies.
Additional topics include working with supervisors, opportunities for academic exchange with peers and other members of the faculty, services offered by the Doctoral School, research data management, ethical aspects of research (including the use of AI), and funding opportunities.
The course is organised as a combination of presentations, discussions, and group work. Guest speakers and experts will be invited to contribute specific perspectives. In addition, the course is accompanied by a mentoring programme in which advanced doctoral candidates support participants in preparing their exposé and the FÖP.
