Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Invited Life Science PostDocs, Scientists and PhDs currently working outside of academia share their experiences acquired during their academic careers, addressing, among others, the following questions:
What advice would you give for choosing a PostDoc-position?
Which problems did you encounter during your scientific career and what were the lessons you learned?
What strategies or habits have you developed to maintain a healthy work-life balance while pursuing a career in academia?
How do you manage mentorship and collaborations in academia, especially concerning students' and collaborators' individual expectations and personalities?
The presentations will be followed by discussion.

This seminar is designed to provide doctoral students and advanced master students who are considering PhD with better insight into the paths of career. Invited speakers will talk about their scientific careers and beyond, about the choices they have made and about factors that have played an important role in developing their own career path. Practical advice on how to prepare for and most effectively plan various steps of a career will be offered. Significance of collaborations and mentoring will also be a central theme, as well as maintaining a healthy life-work balance. This seminar is expected to open direct comunication and allow for sharing expectations, concerns and experiences.
