Dr. Kate Walker serves as External Lecturer at the Chair of East Asian Economy and Society at the University of Vienna. Prior to joining academia, she served as a senior manager for the British Council, the UK’s organization for cultural relations (2013-2017).

Kate’s current research portfolio focuses on governments’ use of music and dance to achieve foreign policy objectives. She is principally engaged, however, as a consultant to diplomatic academies, foreign ministries and international organizations, including the OSCE and European Union. She designs and delivers customized training programs for diplomats and (international) public servants to support the attainment of foreign policy objectives. To date, Kate has created and facilitated professional learning modules for officials from more than 70 countries, but has built concrete expertise in two regions: The Black Sea and South Caucasus as well as East Asia. She has also contributed extensively to programs focused on women in diplomacy.

In addition to courses at the University of Vienna, Kate teaches diplomacy at other institutions, including Stanford University. She is committed to enhancing learning among students; she completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at University College Cork, Ireland (2021-22), the Postgraduate Diploma (2022-23), and is currently undertaking the MA (2023-24).
