Ivan finished PhD in social anthropology at the University of Manchester in 2015. His research interests lie at the intersection of anthropology of labour, morality and politics, with area focus on the post-Yugoslav region. His previous research focused on car factory workers in Central Serbia and the transformations of the social question, labour productivity and market ethos after socialism. His new project explores the shift from work to nature as the basis of new social alliances in the Balkans. Ivan joined University of Vienna’s anthropology department as a postdoc in 2019. Before that, he was a Mellon Fellow at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London (2015-2017), and a researcher on the ERC project ‘Realising Eurasia: Civilisation and Moral Economy in the 21st century’ at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology (2017-2019).
