Die Vorlesung ist zugänglich für Hörer aller Fakultäten, setzt aber Grundwissen in Ethik voraus (z.B. Grundkurs Moraltheologie I und II). Es geht besonders um den interdisziplinären Dialog zwischen Naturwissenschft, Medizin, Philosophie und Theologie im Hinblick auf ethische Fragen.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Should we enhance human beings? Do we need genetically modified crops to provide enough food for the world population? This lecture course is dedicated to questions of this kind that are raised because of the many opportunities and options created by recent scientific and technological progress. The course discusses ethical arguments of different philosophical traditions as well as norms of Christian tradition and those norms and legal frameworks present in our society. An underlying question will be how positions in philosophical anthropology are related to ethical norms.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- general knowledge of new developments in reproduction technologies, genetical engineering, energy and environmental technologies, medical enhancement
- knowledge of ethical lines of argumentation and specific arguments with regard to the thematic fields treated in the lecture course
- knowledge of relevant ethical norms of the Christian tradition
- general understanding of the relationship between philosophical anthropology and ethical norms
