Aims, contents and method of the course

Course content:
This lecture offers an introduction to basic questions on the Bible and its interpretation. The canon, its origins and development, inspiration, hermeneutics and the relationship between Judaism and Christianity will be discussed, as well as the history of interpretation and basic facts about the history of Ancient Israel.

Objectives:
At the end of the course, students will be able to give qualified information about the above-mentioned topics.

Method:
In addition to listening to the lecture, students are also expected to read the literature mentioned below.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam, 45 minutes
NO materials may be used in the exam.
First possible examination date: 2026/01/27
Further examination dates will be offered in the summer term 2026.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The following grading scale will be used: 100-87 points = excellent (1), 86-75 = good (2), 74-63 = satisfactory (3), 62-51 = sufficient (4), 50-0 insufficient (5).
